Quieting my AMS exhaust

I have a Magnaflow muffler (p/n 12259) sitting in my trunk and want to get it installed on my AMS exhaust. I want to remove the existing rear section and have a new rear section fabricated with the Magnaflow muffler and using 3 inch stainless pipe with mandrel bends. Even if the pieces were pre-bent, cut and welded together that would be fine with me. The stainless steel tubing is for durability and not for its looks.

Does anyone know of a shop in the Chicagoland area that has the skill and proper equipment to do this? I've called several shops and asked around and can't seem to find any shop that is competent or confident about this project.

Thanks for any recommendations.

There's this place in West Chicago I think it's called AMS.

A much better alternative. http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/p...&cat=47&page=1

Really? That was funny. Do you actually think that I wouldn't have tried there first? They said they couldn't help. Thus my post.

Anyway, I'm not interested in a silencer.

It was a lil difficult finding a Competent TIG welder with SS rods for me too (I had to get the resonator in Cobb midpipe fixed). Muffler shops are mostly used to Mild Steel and not Stainless.

Just google/yellow page "welders" and take your cat back to em. You're car should only be down for a lil bit of that day.

I'm really interested in finding a shop that works on exhaust systems so they have the knowledge and experience. One with a mandrel bender for 3" stainless steel tubing.

I have a rear section, 3" with a magnaflow muffler that I'm been wanting to trade for something a little louder. It's part of the 3" Vishnu TBE system. They used magnaflow mufflers on their Evo kits.

Anyhow, I've been looking to swap the cat-back and/or just the rear section for something a little more aggressive. Are you interested? You could get rid of your AMS rear-section, and swap it with a magnaflow section. I'd even be willing to pay some cash on my end too.

Let me know - thanks.

I talked with AMS about doing some welding for me and they told me to bring it in to take a look. I guess it depends on type of exhaust systems?

Well anyways when I had the Cobb exhaust I needed a small section of the resonator welded. My friend with a 330I had an exhaust made at a shop he referred me to so I went there and they did it for me.

Double check with him if he still does stainless welding.

Any exhaust shop is capable enough of welding a muffler onto a 3" piece of pipe, it's really not rocket science
