Broken!!! I think

I was just wondering if anyone may have some insight for me? I recently ran my car at the track, shortly after while turning a corner I heard a loud clunk. After the clunk my car immediatly pulled to the left. Now driving strait my car seems ok except for a loud whine. However, evertime I turn the cars seems to want to pull me off the road. I think it may be my transfer case but I am not 100% sure. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Jason

It could be anything. I would take it to a shop or the dealer.

If, as your name implies, you have an 04 evo they had an open diferential in the transfer case. If you stressed them by launching and the tires gripped and slipped or wheel hopped they did'nt take it very well and broke rather frequently.

I've got one in good shape I'll let you have for $70 shipped. They are alot easier to replace than a clutch.

Search, you'll see,
Good luck,
John

Awesome! thanx for the info. I jacked the car up and looked it over, pulling and pushing on everything. It seems everything is tight and there was no visible damage. So now I must take it to someone and have it looked at Hopefully it is something stupid and not to serious like my T-case

no axles, you guys know how much it takes to break the axles on the evo, its amazing, many high horse power evos still run stocks.

right off the bat this is your tranfer case , but is your front diff, its a comon thing with the evo 8's from diff. its a 300 dollar repair at Shepp, he will replace your worm gears on the front diff, dont keep driving it youll messs up everything else.

call shep

dont drive the car bro, i am just letting you know that it can get worst, you have indications that you have broken the spider gears on the front diff inside the TC, this causes the car to drive ok straight but when you take a curve you hear a clunk,

call John sheptrans.com John ad talk to him, the reapairs are cheap 300 plus some here and there, dont keep driving it all the metal particles from the sipider gears will chew up your ring and gear specially on long drives where thing heat up.

you will be doing the stage 1 on the rebuild TC. 350$

if you keep driving it, you will be doing a Factory New Transfer Cases stage 1, $2500 Worst case scenario of course )

That will not show anything unless the ring and pinion gear, inside the t case, are eating each other up. The differential gets it lubrication from the transmission. The open differential uses spider gears and when they break off teeth they bounce around inside the differential housing shown here with ring gear attached. (Can added for size comparison.) The diff housing is in the TC but is not internally lubricated by it and therefore you won't see any metal in the tc fluid.

check this out... to let you know... all my problems started with a loud clunk sounding like it came from the rear end on a transfer from gravel to pavement... i thought maybe a rock was in the brake or something... just a loud pop... then a few weeks later the whine came.... seriously, check this thread out...
