OBDii dtc p0170
I hope nobody gets upset about an Eclipse post, But...I need help.
I'm trying to trouble shoot my daughters 1997 Eclipse GST. Code's set are p0125, p0170. The p0170 is most previlant with the ocasional p0125. The p0170 is "Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1)" but I don't know the most common cause. The p0125 is "Excessive Time to Enter Closed Loop Fuel Control". Both of these codes say a mouthful, but not to me. I can undestand the easy codes, O2 sensor bad, MAP sensor bad etc...But these are a little vague to me. I just bought some OBDii software and the interface cable and I'll be hooking it up next day or two, so what should I look for.
Any advice or hints will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Check your MAF sensor connections and the ECU connectors for corrosion.. Fuel trim malfunction could be due to several things, but at the simplest thing to look at is your Fuel Injectors.. Its possible that they need to be cleaned (at least one of them may be misbehaving) Excessive time to enter closed loop mode could have to do with the Catalytic converter not behaving (either plugged or not "lighting off") In that case it may be a rear 02 sensor.
All of these symptoms together could be an indicator of a problem with the ignition (plugs/wires/coils) or fuel injectors.. so check and clean those first. It'll be inexpensive enough to do.
I'm no expert on these specific cars, but its similar enough to the other cars I've worked on and OBDII codes are OBDII Codes.
