Evo VIII cat life
My 03 daily driver VIII is still generally doing well at 97k miles. Its starting to show its age (starting to wonder how much time the clutch has left in it too), and isn't worth doing extensive mods. Right now I'm still just running a mail in flash and a K&N drop in. It still has the stock exhaust, and I'm thinking of starting back and working forward with something like a Perrin cat back.
I'm wondering what the life expectancy of the stock cat is supposed to be? I can add that to my to-do list with a high flow cat if its worth it. I've heard some stories of area cops that stop look & listen for test pipes.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Cats will die over time. It depends on more factors. The Evo's run pretty rich, so that keeps the cat cooler but clogs it up. 97k is pretty good for stock clutch and cat. Adding a HFC and new clutch to keep the car working at this point isn't too bad of a deal
About cops, depends where you're from, but be certain that as soon as you put a cat back on it, you're way louder than you were. Most ppl end up going with a test pipe anyway. I've read quite a few reviews of high flow cats being completely dead and nothing but a blocking POS in the exhaust system after just a few months.
