272 cam question

ok... im getting my HKS 272 cams installed on my evo on tuesday.. its the only opportunity ill have to do it for a while...but i wont be able to get it tuned for a bit... my question is... will i damage my motor by just installing the cams and not tuning it? or is it like most other parts where i just wont see the increase in horsepower until its retuned?

thank you guys

Not, an expert but your car will probably run like poo, till you get a tune. Bump for answer though, because i have a set of HKS 272 waiting to be installed. Just waiting for gasket to come.

when i put my cams in i wasnt tuning my own car yet and i beat on my car for a while till i got tuned, its prolly a good idea not to push it too hard unless you can log and make sure everything is cool.

i dont really recommend you do too much driving without a tune... i had 272s in for ~1 week, and the car hated it... now if you arent going to be tuned for a few months, i seriously recommend you wait.

Everyone is throwing "272s" around like all 272 cams are similar.

i installed my BC 272s and I had no problem for a while. Take it easy and stay away from WOT. Put a good 500 miles on them as this like the standard for breaking any new "metal to metal" part. I ran on wastgate pressure till that was done. I had no idling issues, but I had a good tune before the cam install..Hope this helps.

Very true. Each brand's 272 is unlike another.

I have BC 280s in my car, untuned. I am trying not to beat on it, but I've revved it out pretty far, stock springs and retainers. It seems fine and I need a tune, but I wouldn't be surprised if I blew something up soon!

your gas mileage is gonna suck, you won't have power gains, and drivability will be poor. That being said you'll be pig rich and the stock tune has very conservative timing so you shouldn't damage anything...
