Timing issues help please...look inside

I just recently installed my 280s and springs and retainers, I did this all off car and replaced the headgasket. Timing the motor has been tricky, i get everything at tdc and spin it, everytime either the crank has went out a tooth after tdc, or the intake cam is out a tooth.. I have tried a few different things, and im just looking for some helpfull insight maybe some tricks, I have read the How to timing belt thread already, Is there anyone with some more experience that can please help me out. And PLEASE if you dont have anything positive to say dont say it.

Thanks

steve
