Need Help.....

Last night I dropped the car off at the dealership for 4th to 5th gear grind at high rpms. Now today they called me and told me that they could re-produce the problem. Now this PROBLEM does occur and the dealership told me that they dont want their techs driving that fast so I said that I would come there and re-produce it for them and again they told me that they dont want their techs in a car going that fast since Mitsu would be reliable. SO NOW WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE ME. I know this does happen but they wont push the car that much to show it and wont allow me to show me.

So as it stands, they are putting a call into Mitsu. to see if they can pull the tranny out and check the syncro. but it doesnt look likely.

What should I do? Please help

So they already have reproduced the problem? If so, what's the hassle about? Tell them to get off their **** and fix it.
Better yet, gotta drag strip nearby?

I think you mean "can't reproduce" it. They can do road tests just fine legally up to the speed limit. They aren't scared to drive the car; they're scared to find the problem. Tell them you will come down and go for a ride-along with a tech and that they HAVE to drive it to reproduce the problem! Stupid dealerships.

Thats funny you should say that, my friend said they same thing....but was just jokin.

I told them that I would take the tech for a ride and they still said they couldnt allow the tech to be going at those speeds. But I know that I could re-produce it for them. I guess I am screwed

What? I highly, highly doubt that there is a 'speed rating' for techs.

I think that they may be giving you a line of bull.

having worked at a dealership in the past, the reason the techs or anyone else won't drive faster than the posted speedlimit is due to the liability.

If your driving the car at 90 mph down the expressway and happen to crash your car, are you going to pay the tech's medical bills if he gets hurt?

First of all, I'm not sure why you need to break any speed limites to get into 5th gear??

Second of all, the car has a problem, sounds like a legitimate problem, therefore tell your dealership to fix it. If they cannot fix it, take it back to them again for the same problem, tell them it's still doing it. If you can, at that point, (3rd try maybe) take it to another dealership. If you still cannot get it fixed, Lemon Law it, and get a new one. I bet it will get fixed then.

3 times is all it takes on a new car. Then the manufacturer has to buy back the vehicle.

It's amazing how clueless these Mitsu dealerships are.

I would also call corporate and complain to them.

Yeah, in fact most dealerships have their least favorite techs already lined-up for that kind of duty! Kind of like getting to be the guy that starts Sadams jeep to "make sure it is warmed-up" wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

I agree with Fireball...sounds like bs to me. Maybe tell them you can make it grind at lower speeds too, and then after the tech is in the car with you, he is your prisoner.......

Well...after some convincing I told them "Listen, I am not bull****ting and it does grind from 4th to 5th" They ended up putting the car up on the the lift and simulating the problem on the lift. I was a little surprised that they would risk putting the car up on the lift like that......well anyways they heard the grind and now they have the car for who know how long. If a dealership trys to give you the same kind of run around, tell them to put it on the lift.

That is exactly what I was saying......I figured that would be more dangerous. Oh well.....at least if they break something it is their fault.

I am getting worried now though. They were supposed to call me this morning and as of 10:30 they havent called. I will give them a call and see what is up.

Update.

My car was at the dealer for a week. The parts took a while to get. Anyways, they said nothing about my complete 3" UR TB with NO cat, buschur cone filter, boost gauge, or Blitz TT. They fixed the problem and at NO charge.

Here is a list of the parts they replaced.

MT00 Overhauled Transmission for 5th Gear Grind - Replaced 5th gear HUB/SYNCRO/RING/BEARING
7 W94 9.8 hours (total labor)

1 MR581020 Gear, M/T (input shaft)
1 MR980788 Sleeve, M/T (5th & rev sy)
1 MR980246 Ring Assy, M/T rev gear
1 MD747300 Ring, M/T SYNCH
1 MR 980819 HUB, M/T 5th and rev gear syn
2 MD747926 Spring, M/T synch key
1 MD747744 Bearing, M/T Input shaft
1 MD748457 Bearing, M/T Output shaft

This seems to have fixed the problem.
