part throttle

is it me, why does my car feel faster at part throttle than when i have it at full throttle?
could it be the hks bov or afc
i haven't done much to the setting in the afc -4% was my lowest setting. is this the way the car runs stock ?
i wouldn't know how it feel at full throttle stock because i never got on it when i was breakin the car, and i installed the afc and bov before i started really driving the car.

I've noticed the same thing, and actually played with this observation when I just went to get gas. It seems that flooring this car beyond about 75-80% does nothing more than richen up the flow, not really providing any more pull.

I did this about 5 different times, and the car actually seems to respond better with 75% throttle than 100%.

My car is stock, temp is about 68F, and humidity is low.

I'm guessing that intake and exhaust would probably provide the better airflow needed for the richer A/F mixture that seems to be happing at 100% throttle, hence providing more power.

I guess my first mod will be exhaust

It is because the car is running leaner, les fuel and sometimes the same boost, believe me, proper tuning and WOT will net the most power. Stock the car is rich, so part throttle is leaner.

I noticed the same thing. It really hit home as I finished the break-in miles because I expected a lot more power since it really pulled hard with only partial throttle.

I don't understand the engine management stuff. On partial throttle the O2 sensor controls A/F but at full throttle it uses a stored map? Seems like if there was a way to trick the ECU to believe it should always set A/F based on the O2 the car would be more powerful.

In the DBW Audis (I used to have a DBW 2000 A4 1.8T), there is a part throttle mod where you put a stopper under the pedal so that floored is really only ~80% throttle or so.

Part of the reason for this was the DBW, so it was somewhat of different situation.

I don't think I get full boost at partial throttle, but it's definitely leaner than WOT. WOT you can almost hear the gas being poured in . Anyway, I'm not sure that it's actually faster, but it does kind of feel that way. You don't want full boost at partial throttle or PTHB (partial throttle high boost) since this can run dangerously lean. I'll check on my way home from work.

I think that at partial throttle you are going by the MAF readings and the ECU will compensate to some extent. At WOT, I think you read the tables with their ultra conservative rich values. This is why there can be such good gains with fuel control like an SAFC or the like.

Thoughts?

Hi,

I checked this morning on my way to work and I do get ~full boost at partial throttle with my MBC, which is probably bad. The car definitely feels faster, and i even tried transitioning to full throttle up at 5500 rpm and it felt like the car just fell on it's face as it went very rich.

Anyway, be careful at partial throttle and high boost, there was a lot of talk about this on Nasioc, but I never paid attn since our WRX doesn't have any boost control, heh.
