I am purchasing a 5 speed transmission for my IX and I want to ask what you guys think about gearing. I use the car as a daily driver and hit the track to road race once a month. John from Shep told me that usually they use 4:11 for the bigger motor, but that was for Drag racing not for road racing. Which do you think will be a best choice for road racing? I will be around 430 whp.

 

Stay with the stock gears, I have to 4.11 gears in my car now and I love it, but I'm a street car and I'm also pushing big boost.

 

I told John at Shep to use the OEM and not 4:11s and he said that I had a couple of days to decide, so I just want to make sure I do the right thing. Thanks for the advice.

 

For that, I would stick with stock like sharkbite mentioned.... What stage trans are you getting? Whats your engine setup?

 

It is a stage II transmission. My current setup is all the boltons plus GSC S2 cams and FP Green. But in a few weeks I will get my 2.3L stroker and I will try to get a FP Red for it and I already ordered an Alky kit to run with it. So I am expecting around 430-450 whp.
