Between the engine and the tranny...

Hey everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself before I get to asking some questions... Being a long time DSM owner and DSMTalk member, when I got my 05 8 in January I had to join your forum.

The first thing that I want to buy is a good clutch and flywheel because I'm sure it has the original clutch. Also, I hate how heavy the flywheel is. That being said I've searched around the forum here trying to feel out what combos you guys are running and seeing what everyone likes and is holding up well. I'm still a bit sketchy on the flywheel weight I want to run as I'm seeing things from 9lbs, to 11lbs, to 13lbs. I know the lighter isn't the best, but I just have to get away from this 19lb beast. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm not replacing it with an OEM spec clutch. I'd like to get something with a bit higher clamp load, seeing as the 8 will be receiving some bolt ons. I've ran ACT's in everything else, and wanted to try an Exedy for this clutch. I'm seeing different brands like F1, XTR, and Alpha. Now I'm not going to be putting down huge numbers right out of the gate, but I don't have the $1000 or so for a HD Exedy right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance guys, and I'm sure you'll be seeing me again now that this is my new home.

I have an ACT sprung 6 puck in mine and I love it. The only problem is that it will lock you out at high RPMS

Not sure where you got your facts from but the stock flywheel is 13.9 lbs, not 19lbs.

"Ultra Light and weighs only 13.55 lbs (stock flywheel weighs 19 lbs)"

Ebay... See, this is why you can never believe anything you read on the internet. I didn't get it out of the car yet, so I didn't know. 19lbs seemed kind of heavy, but the RPMs are so slow to wind down that it seemed logical. Good catch though.

Thanks to everyone else that gave input. I'd like to hear what others have to say, so please speak up.
