Thumbs down Trans noise...bet ya cant guess what it is!!

So i have been having an intermittent knocking problem. I have had a few people help diagnose and ive come to the conclusion it is phantom knock. Changes in timing and/or fuel dont affect the knocking and i had an egt gauge installed and it doesnt show any abnormally high temps when it "says" its knocking.

I think i have narrowed it down to the transmission but im stumped on what it can actually be. The trans shifts fine and the clutch still grabs (original clutch with 60k on it). I have changed the fluid a few times and there was nothing abnormal with the fluid and there wasnt too significant of a build up of metal shavings on the drain plug. I have launched the car maybe 6 or 7 times since 15k miles.

I have attached 2 videos of the noise. It doesnt start making noise until the car has been driving for a while and if i push the clutch in the noise goes away completely. While im driving it sounds like its making the same noise but its hard to tell over my exhaust since it doesnt seem to get much louder.

This video is taken right next to the drivers side wheel

This video was taken under the intake right near the clutch bleeder.

I think this is the cause of my knock issue and i know i want truely know anything until i get the clutch replaced i was wondering if anyone would have an opinion if its internal in the trans or something to do with the clutch/tob??

Thanks!

It'll get even louder with an aftermarket clutch. I think what you hearing is a non issue

My car is making the exact same noise. When you push the clutch in it goes away. I have an Exedy Twin though. I wonder if it is the throwout bearing wore out.

Yupp no doubt in my mind it's the throw out bearing. Either that or your input shaft bearing.

I wonder if it could be the input bearing and how expensive it would be to get fixed.

My buddy came over last night, and his EVO is doing the same thing. He has 64K miles. The clutch, tob and flywheel is about a month old. I think it is his input shaft bearing. I will be pulling it apart next week, so I will let you know what I find out.

Have you found out what your problem is?

Just an update for anyone who might have this noise.
I pulled the tranny apart, and he had a broken gear. It had a big crack in it, and a broken tooth. Everything else looked fine.
