mishimoto tranny cooler

recenty i had a transmission failure, im not sure what caused the issue. my tuner tells me that the old tranny was effed up pretty good. so i bought a new one, and im just wondering if maybe a tranny cooler would be a good investment. i know you can get mishimoto tranny coolers for like $70. has anyone out there used one of these?

I dont think it would be too easy to put a transmission cooler on the evos manual transmission. Also transmission coolers are usually made only for autos not manual. You would need a mechanism to pump the fluid to the actual cooler if you had one.

That manual transmission oil cooler set up that guy did is top notch, very clever. If the op is referring to that Mishimoto universal automatic transmission cooler, that's exactly what it's for an "automatic transmission". Automatic transmission fluid has the consistency almost like water, it's very thin fluid. Our manual transmission gear oil is much thicker and needs a type of engine oil cooler to be able to handle those cooling chores. You would need to do what that guy did complete with a oil pumping system to draw out the transmission oil, route it to the external oil cooler, then feed back the cooled transmission oil to the transmission.

auto trans are easily adapted with a trans cooler because they constantly push the fluid around. A manual trans doesnt have a pump, it's just gears that dip through the oil. In order to do a trans cooler you're going to need to adapt the drain plug with a line to a pump, probably electric and then pump it into a cooler then have the fill bolt just be the return for the system. The gear oil is thicker than automatic transmission fluid, so you're probably gonna run into some problems there.
