unequal length header
The stock manifold is unequal length, but only by a few inches. The Subaru exhausts have far more difference in runner length due to the boxer design, it's unlikely you'd ever hear an EVO that sounded anything like a Subie.

lol! thats wack.
what do you guys think about and significantly unequal length header for the evo. how do you think the evo would do with it? would it conflict the twin scroll?
i love my evo but cant get over how good my wrx sounds

yep! ive been thinking about it for days now and want other peoples opinions on this. i mean other than (maybe) dropping in some cams i dont know what will make my evo sound like my suby or if theres even a way make it come close.
i have a custom exhaust mani that is slightly unequal and it def has the subbie rumble to it as well, i know in the top end the ole butt dyno said there was a big diff, but i didnt do a before and after test so i cant say honestly
I agree that you will never get the boxer sound out of the evo as... well the evo has an I4. In addition, the more unequal the runners get, the more the exhaust pulses are out of phase and the more each pulse 'runs into' another pulse the more turbulence there will be in the exhaust flow. This is a bad thing. You want smooth air coming from the exhaust to increase the flow rate and therefore the spin on the turbine and hence the compressor wheel increasing intake flow. That is why many headers are billed as 'equal length' as it is a desirable trait, however more expensive due to routing and material cost. Bottom line is, dont make your header unequal on purpose, it will only decrease performance.
A large cam will definitely give you a more 'boxer like' sound with an offbeat idle.

This thread is pointless. These are two completely different motors which make their own distinctive sound. I know the exhaust tone changes with an equal length manifold for a subie but it isn't the same for our cars. If the exhaust tone is the only thing in your head about moding your evo then you should just sell your car and invest more into your subie.
the suby rumble is probly the biggest thing i miss from my STi, well, and low end torque. but yeah i dont think Evos have a distinctive sound at all and it would be kinda weird to hear a suby rumble coming out of an Evo...
