New Clutch for XI!

My clutch went out with 44,000miles on my 9. Which clutch is the best? Im planning not to go over 400hp. I was thinking about the Act HDSS. you guys think i should get a flywheel with it or resurface my old one? What is the cheapest price around here?

Thanks

It depends on what your using it for and how much tq it needs to be able to hold.

If you got 44k from your stock clutch then I would have to advise that you replace it with the stock one. If your looking for something that holds more power or your starting to modify the car then probably the HDSS or Exedy Twin. As far as your flywheel goes the stock one will have better drivability than a lighter one, but a lighter one will reduce the rotating mass and therefore give you some HP up top. Everything is a tradeoff when it comes to clutches. More power holding ability generally means poorer drivability (especially in the single disc world).

The only aftermarket clutch that I've driven that didnt have any chatter was the Fidanza 3.2 in a Evo VIII. I've heard they make this for the IX now.. but no first hand experience with it. Twin disc's drive pretty good if you can stand the noise and the price. My experience with Evo's is limited to the OEM, Exedy Twin, HDSS, Exedy Stg1, and the 3.2.

Comp stage 3 and their aluminum flywheel to go with it. MAP carries them!

scheides, how's the engagement on the comp clutch. It was in my short list last time. I do mostly traffic driving (leaving from a stop). Anything that will hold 350 tq and be smooth sounds perfect to me.

I had the ACT HDDS on my VIII and loved it. A friend of mine has the Exedy Twin and swears by it but I have to swear at its price! You can't go wrong with either of those to IMO.

I just pm the MAP and he has great prices on the Competition Stage 2-4. I'm in need of a clutch to and i think i might go with the stage 4.

I had the Fidanza 3.2 in my wife's 8 and the 4.3 in my IX... I really liked the both... the 3.2 has smoother engagement. The Fidanza clutches also have less pedal pressure making it a little easier on you IMO.
