This thread is valid. If you do not wish or have something negative to say - then either don't post or find a good way to post it.

This has been done. Our resident SCCA T2 racer did it for his car (class rules allowed it).

Here is one thread I found. Not the one I am thinking of, but it has been done.

In addition to the Evo 9 motor you will need an engine wiring harness and the ECU. This is all that is needed to run the Evo 9 motor in an 8. An Evo 9 long block will run you $5300 and the wiring harness is somewhere around $800 plus the cost of the ECU. All in total it will cost you over $6500 to drop a stock Evo 9 motor into an Evo 8.

You need a IX engine harness, & a IX ecu. You can use your current non acd transfer case without a problem and the the VIII tranny bolts right up.

I'm just curious but are you getting a 9 motor for cheap or something? Did a rod or something go through your existing block? You wouldn't rather have a built motor vs getting another stock motor?

Good luck on the swap if you go that route

"ant1" from lancerregister.com has taken a UK Evo 8 and put a stroker in it and is using the 9 ECU (with speed density conversion) and MIVEC head. Not quite what you're doing, and the UK Evo 8 has a 3 plug ECU that is wired very similarly to the UK Evo 9, "grayw" who posts on here knows the details, why not PM him?

I can't believe all the negative things that were said on the first page. This swap is pretty much cake. It's definitely not useless, and it definitely would NOT be cheaper to "sell your 8, get a 9".

All it takes is the motor, engine wiring harness, and ECU. That is it. If your evo 8 had acd, great. It will still have it. If your evo8 did not have ACD, great. You will have some un-used plugs. I am in the middle of this swap right now.

seems like a lot of messing around for cam. You could build a pretty cheap and potent 8 motor from used parts on here.

Was that you asking "but why?"

Why the hell not? If you have the means to do this swap, there's no reason not to.

I may do this swap also. Dont you need the ignition to match the ecu for the immobilizer?

My non cdi I bought used was from a 9. I assume the plugs are the same but the plates are a little different. I know 9 plate will fit in an 8 but not the other way around.
