this might sound like a stupid question but can English racing fix off timing and do the same good job as a mitsu dealer would? I really would much rather take it to the best place that knows Evo's and from what i hear English racing is the place to go.

Hey man crazy question but is a boost controller hooked up? You are obviously running only wastegate pressure and since you bought it used chances are he had a mbc and took the unit out and just left a line to a boost source. Sometimes the smallest things go unnoticed.

RevMoto asks a good question. Maybe you should just purchase a new vacuum/boost hose assembly from the dealership and hook it up to your BCS. See if this works.

Low octane gas will make it slow. The ecu will retard spark and richen fuel and will be slow no matter how much boost is applied. This is a good thing by keeping engine from blowing up.

When NOT octane limited and intake temps are good, HP is achieved with the following:

1) optimal AFR
2) spark advance, so position of peak pressure is 12 -15 degrees ATDC
3) boost
4) efficiency of air/exhaust flow, optimimised VE (intake ducting/exhaust, cams)
5) complete ignition

Question

when I took it to the dealership for a diagnostic, It popped the code for the wastegate solinoid that regulates boost pressure, I had checked it earlier and it was in-fact broken at the tip and glued back on the shop that dropped the new motor in, and also the tech told me that the lower timing gear/wheel needed to be replaced? He said something along the lines about not being at Top dead center or off or something lol it was alot to take in having spent 20k on a car and had it for a month lol. I can see how timing would make sense because the problem to begin with was the car wouldnt pull, I unhooked the vacum lines from the wastegate solinoid to run full boost and I could hear the turbo spool, but it felt as if there was something holding it back? What do u guys think? could it really be the timing?

yeah it does run like crap lol I get like 170miles out of the full gas tank and thats just revving to 3k rpms and half the time not boosting, the idle is fine but it runs super rich and has already killed my cat. car is pretty much stock other than a K&N drop in filter Greddy BOV and a Turbo back exhaust

Ok...so it runs extremely rich well than you have a boost leak than...do a boost leak test!!!

yea man seriously. take it to a shop like english racing and they will take care of everything for u. Won't have to be on here trying to figure it out either. No one will really know unless they were actually there to see the car.

whenever it comes to a performance car.. i would never trust the dealer.

Im a technician at a dealership and i would never trust any of the other guys there on a performance car. Ive been in 4g63 and other 4cy turbo scene for almost 6 years and know my performance end of the spectrum. But the others will sit there and just snug your intercooler pipes and not zip tie your hoses. ect.

Take your car to a performance shop that works on these cars. Youll have a much better outcome.
