Thinking about a turbo upgrade, BBK?

I have a Evo IX, I'm thinking about upgrading the turbo to a BBK full and meth injection. I just wanted to know if anyone was running the turbo and what they like and don't like about it. Also what supporting mods are a must and what they think is not worth the money. My car is an everyday driver. I'm making 280 whp on a Dyno Dynamics dyno a conservative dyno. I would like to get 350. I'm trying to get there without making all the 5 hp little mods that cost a fortune. I don't want to be a ricer. I'm calling my tuner tomorrow.

Mods:
TBE
MBC
Intake
Ecu Flash

Do you have E85 in your home area? If so, I would do the BBK-Full, and cams, pumps/injectors, with switchable E85/93 octane maps on your IX, and call it a day.

You need a fuel pump and 780 injectors to get the BBK installed.

I know the fuel pump needs to be upraded I'll do that next week. I wasnt sure about the injectors some people have been telling me they are good up to 400hp and you use less fuel running meth. Thanks I'll order some injectors. Is there a better turbo option for what I'm trying to do?

BBK Full FTW. Meth injection is a whole different beast. If you want 350 on dyno dynamics, the BBK will do it on straight pump gas, probably on your stock cams. You could also keep your stock turbo and go the alky route (i recommend aquamist!), that would get you to 350 as well. Just depends on how much you want to spend and how much you want to dink around. For a straight pump gas car, BBK is the way to go. If you want the cheaper route but have time to dink with the car a little more, I recommend the Aquamist/alky route. Or, be like me and do the 'BOTH' route and gun for 400whp on that dyno dynamics If I did it over again, I'd probably do the BBK before I did the alky.

E85 and your stock turbo would get you to 350 without a sweat. I hit 360 on the 9.8 VIII turbo and stock cams. You don't need a turbo upgrade for that number, just a good tune and a fuel upgrade.

On a similar reading dyno dynamics I was able to make 377/377 on e85 stock turbo and FP4r cams on my IX. HOWEVER, the IX turbo falls off greatly after the 30psi spike. An upgraded turbo like a BBK Full or Red will pull harder to redline.

have the bbk on my 03...You will need the fuel pump as you know already, injectors (I have 720's). With what you already have you will have no problem hitting 350whp with the BBK full. Add the meth and run it @ 26-27 psi it will be more than what you are shooting for...Have fun.

If you are using meth/93 mix or e85, and don't mind couple rpm of lag, the red is the way to go imo.

Good luck

This is what i have been thinking as well. It seems the lag of this BBK/green is really overrated compared to the red. I want as much power as possible and it seems the Red can be pushed hard and still crank out 35r numbers with hella good spool.

What does the BBK flow?

BBK is a 50 lbs min turbo...

we have made up to 425whp on pump with it on our mustang dyno...

the red is closer to 60 lbs min...

the transient response of the BBK is what truly makes it awesome in my opinion... but do some research for urself

or pm me for any needed info.

I called my tuner today, he said that he hasn' t done a BBK yet but has heard good things. He said that he expects 335 on his dyno. He also said he doesnt like to run Meth too risky is case of pump failure. Are the fail safes on these things 100%? I'm thinking i might go Red after hearing that. 335WHP seems low what do you guys think? Would gsc s1 cams be a better upgrade then the meth?

The BBK will make 360+ on pump gas alone. You also have to remember the power under the cure. The BBK is defiantly superior to the red in that regard!

Read this thread, watch the video and look at the graphs:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/wa...ther-last.html

Then show it to your tuner. A properly set up aquamist kit is 100% safe.

If you go red, get ready to wait. Just think, if you order now, you'll get it at the END of the summer!

I had my BBK in my hands 5 days after ordering it, I'm endlessly happy with it

I think I'm going to go with the BBK, I don't want to wait 6 weeks for a turbo. If I was to go cams with the bbk is there a set up that is ideal? Will I get alot more from the BBK with more agressive cams. If there is a vendor with a lot of experience with these turbos I would like your opinion.
