What is this knob on the fuel pressure solenoid for?

When I was pulling off my bracket under the intake manifold, I accidently snapped this knob off of my factory fuel pressure solenoid. I noticed it earlier in the day, and know that it can turn back and forth (although I left it).

First question, what does it do?

Second, now that it is snapped off, it is not going to be a vacuum leak, is it? I can't tell by looking at it if the solenoid puts manifold pressure to the knob similar to a manual boost controller, or if it's all internal to the device.

Here are 2 quick pictures of the knob I snapped:

Thanks for the help

It is the fuel pressure solenoid. It is located on the passenger side of the factory intake manifold, and connects to the factory fuel rail to regulate the fuel pressure.

This is without looking at my car. But since no one else is willing to look either, I'll offer a guess.

Since the fuel pressure solenoid, when open, vents air into the manifold vacuum signal applied to the fuel pressure regulator, I'd say what you have there is the world's smallest air filter. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

Since it's broke, try and cut/pry it open. I'm curious as well. My guess would be a filter, like barneyb said.

+1. It's an air filter.

If I recall correctly it's covering the atmospheric port on the FPS that's used during startup to increase fuel pressure. Normally under startup you'll run fuel pressure lower than the base set thanks to the vacuum from the engine that occurs when idling and off-throttle (like during starting), and this opens up the FP line to atmosphere so that you run a bit higher fuel pressure to help. I think it's either a filter like they said, or just a cover that helps minimize the chances of blockage of the atmospheric port on the FPS.

its just a cap, for an open port in the fuel pressure solenoid... there are many more throughout the engine and sensors if I am not mistaken.
