Just put new OEM bolts in and it still does it Now it sounds like its intermittently engaging and disengaging, like the starter isn't fully meshing with the flywheel.

I've tried 2 starters, and both are good on my other Evo, so I know that isn't the problem, and I've also tried 2 different starter relays. Still nothing.

Anyone have any ideas at all?

EDIT: The starter plate IS bent where the starter bolts up, up inside where it doesn't brace against the transmission, but the starter bolts up and sits flush. Could this be the problem, and if so, is it possible to replace it without completely removing the trans? I've done 2 clutches in 2 weeks and I'm a bit spent.
