suddenly car wont go into gear!?Update with Pics!

as the title says..I was coming home and when coming to a stop I tried to engage 1st and no gear!! is like the lever wont go all the way in!

I tried to adjust the clutch no help, turn off the car and put 1st and start again no luck..

All other gears shift like butter!

I did noticed that when you engage 1st and let the clutch out you can hear a lil of grinding but not so loud..

Could this be related to the linkage?or a bad synchro?

If this is the problem, do I need only to buy the 1st gear synchro?

help appreciated!

**UPDATE**

Well Today I drop the tranny in my house started @6pm and finished @11pm, Including Opening up the tranny...

When I Drain the oil I see alot of particles in the oil..I was Scared...Open up the tranny and bingo Lot of Particles on the oil and a piece of metal already chunk..To find out that is ...

Broken 1st/2nd Fork....

I think that this part was hurted already since my car came with a IKEYA SEQUENTIAL SHIFTER From Japan, All my Gears,Synchro etc are In EXCELENT condition..

Thanks GOD first and secondly all evom members that helped me !!

Sorry About Quality..took with BB

If you hear grinding after the car is already engaged, you have answered the question. To get a complete assessment, that gearbox needs to be opened up to tell for sure. If you drain the gear oil and look at the magnetic plug for metal chips, anything bigger than very fine slivers, you've got issues. If I am reading correctly, you were getting the grinding noise before you got to the point where it won't engage at all, right?

You may want to weigh out just buying a complete gearbox in comparison to buying replacement synchros (cost plus shipping to DR if they don't have them at Mitsu plus installation), and I am assuming that you have these in the DR by way of all the second-hand JDM parts places, right?

thanks for the response..Nope no grinding at all..just out of nowhere the 1st gear dissaperead...

When I try to engage the 1st The lever goes into place and let the clutch out you can hear a lil bit of grinding like is trying to get into gear.

My best bet is to change the synchro...Shipping would be expensive to my country..

Yeah, i know all about that shipping fee. It's the same for my country where the shipping fee is way more than the actual part(s) cost. I suppose someone on here may have a gearbox they are parting out.

As for why it is doing this, something that is holding the synchro in place may have gotten loose, but regardless, you won't know until you open up the gearbox.

I suppose you will be launching with second gear until the mechanic gets in there. Good luck and I hope all goes well

have you checked the shift linkage? i'm having the same problem but i couldnt engage 1st or 2nd.
check under the battery tray and you will see the linkage there, check the white bushing(looks like a half moon)mine was stripped on one side. for a temporary fix, i flipped it to the other side and voila i now have 1st and 2nd.i'm carefully shifting until the new bushing comes in. hope this helps.

Yes, thank God first, and thank God it is the fork and not the synchro. I would recommend either checking with someone locally in DR to see if other Mitsu cars use the same fork. A part number query would help, but I don't have a part number to give you. I am sure someone here has it. Another option is to see if someone has a spare gearbox they are parting out, etc. lastly, get to PR and see if the brothers there can source you one from the Mitsu dealership for an EVO 8 or check with the US aftermarket EVO transmission specialists to help you sort it out. I have a Middle East Spec EVO VII, which is more aligned to the JDM versions, and we swap out between the 8 and 9.

Good luck and God bless you and your car.

Always ready to help a brother out. Seems like we think alike with the PR connection and stuff. The Liqui-Moly dealer should have everything you need. I sent you my e-mail via PM
