Differences between evo 8 and 9 J-pipes

My buddy bought a turbo that "supposely" came with a 9 j-pipe but when you hold it next to a 8 one they look the same. Can you easily tell the difference between the two or is it hard to tell. If anyone has pics of showing both of em would be great
Thanks

I believe they are the same. The only difference between the 8 and 9 was the turbo nozzle, mivec, and acd, i think...

I thought you had to switch to a 9 j-pipe if your runnning a evo 9 style turbo? If not why do venders sell the j pipe with a "evo 9 turbo install kit"?

they aren't the same. the one for the 9 is a little shorter to make up for the bigger comp housing.

The j pipes are different. If you plan to run a 9 turbo on an 8 you have to get the 9 j pipe.
The 8 j pipe hits the starter when using it on a 9 turbo.

to clarify what you just said make no sense

regardless of whether you used a ix turbo on an viii or a ix you'd need a ix j pipe

it wouldn't make a difference so clearly you had an install error or another problem entirely

9 turbo requires 9 J pipe as stated, regardless of evo 8/8.5/9
