Buying a new EVO
Buying a new EVO
Alright, so I am getting out of my Supra TT , and into a new Red EVO next week. I have been lurking on here for about a week now, and have basically surmised the following: The clutch sucks and won't last more than 10k.. There is a 50 buck fix from some company that improves clutch pedal feel. Boost leaks are a problem, and apparently there is a recall of some sorts. The B&B turbo back exhaust is the way to go.
Anything else I missed?
TIA

I would suggest one of the first mods be a turbo timer, reason to help the longevity of your turbo allowing it to cool sufficently. Second, a down pipe and exhaust, some of the most popular right now are the HKS Hiper and downpipe, the JIC titanium, the B&B like you mentioned above. Just a few freindly suggestions. Congrats on the EVO purchase you won't be dissappointed.
I would not worry about the clutch, unless your gonna be drag racing. I drive my car pretty hard and have put around 10 good launches on it. With almost 9k miles I have had no problems.
I'm convinced most of the clutch failures are from abuse or repeated launches on a car that was not designed for drag racing.

You don't need a 3" turbo back unless you're going with a bigger turbo. save your money for other mods (i.e., engine managment). Just get rid of the muffler and cat and turn up the boost to compensate for the loss...

what you missed, is that i guess you havent been reading the forums... the clutches are great, people who redline/drop starts are going to blow their clutches, 4k miles and good as the day i got it, 99% of people have NO problems with their clutches. and the BOV does not leak up to stock boost pressure. after that, well anything goes...

I don't know of any boost leak issues - some people from the factory seem to have different max psi than others - but it could be contributed to their tune, environment, boost gauge and / or the boost gauge install.
If I were to start all over again, the very first thing I'd do to prepare the car for a long life is get the $40 ARP head studs. Several on here have already lost their engine due to the crappy stock head bolts shifting enough near the #4 cylinder and allowing sufficient space for the head gasket to blow under boost. If you're going to turn up the boost (and why wouldn't you?) - take care of it!
The stock clutch will last a long time. I switched because I drag race - I was driving around on the stock clutch after MANY 6k rpm launched w/o issues.
Don't waste money on turbo timers (I'm sure you know) - you can save that for real mods - just sit in your car for 30 seconds to a minute while it idles
