Cooling system issues
Cooling system issues
Hi, last week I had a Forge WG actuator installed and set at 18 psi by a local performance shop. When I received the car back I noticed it tends to feel like it is building pressure when I floor it but does not really kick in until around 4500rpmish. (I just bought the car a couple weeks ago so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.) However, until then the car feels like its not really "getting up and going" the way it should be.
Within 24 hours of receiving the car back, I am driving along and decide to floor it. As soon as this happens I hear a loud pop noise that almost sounds like backfire, but I'm pretty sure it came from the engine bay. I continue to drive a little bit more but take it easy and notice the temp gauge going up, way up. I make it all the way back to my house and look under the hood and notice a HUGE stream of coolant coming from the area around the water pump on the block. I try to fill the radiator up with water and it just leaks right out on that side almost instantly.
I took the car into a mechanics shop the next day and have them look at it and they said that the water pump had gone out and so I had them replace it and the timing belt/pulleys/tensioner. After a few days I am able to pick the car up and I'm driving along again (the same day I picked the car up) and I floor it and again this time I hear about 2 or 3 loud pops and within a few minutes the temp gauge is going up. I tried to fill the radiator up again and it all just leaks right out on the block side. I'm guessing that something is causing the water pump to suicide itself, but I have no idea what. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of what it might be? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

thermostat is probably stuck shut. building pressure in the coolant system causing things to blow, like radiators, water pumps, sometimes even radiator hoses. I just replaced a radiator on a friends caddy, his thermo stuck shut and blew his radiator. Get a new thermostat and you should be good.

Got the car back yesterday and it turned out to be a defective water pump. The freeze plug shot off (its not supposed to come off) and caused the massive leak. Got a new water pump installed and car is running fine.
Glad its working for you now. I was just about to say you probably blew the freeze plug out on your waterpump. I had the same thing happen to me. I would make sure that is your only issue. I had the dealership replace my waterpump under warranty. Then two weeks later I had another pop. This time my headgasket was blown and
decided to void my warranty
Pulled the head in my garage with the help from a friend and shes been running strong since.
