Question about AFTER Turbo Install
Question about AFTER Turbo Install
Ok, I just finished installing my Tomei turbo yesterday. I let it idle for a few minutes. Drove it to work. Stay under boost and around 60mph. My question is, is there a break-in period that we have to follow for a brand new turbo? Thanks for the answers!
I just changed oil a month ago with AMS oils. Since the accident, I haven't been driving it lately. I think the oil should still be good.

I dont do a break in per se, but when I put a new turbo I pull the crank angle sensor and crank the car 10 times or so. This allows oil pressure will circulate through the turbo with out the car actually running.

Nah, no breakin-period. I'm guessing the Tomei is journal bearing? The whole idea behind journal bearings is that there is an oil film between the bearing and shaft so that they never touch. If they do touch, that's a problem. Since they're not suppose to touch, there's nothing to break in
There is no break in period. Typically you prime the turbo before starting and running the car. This is usually done by disconnecting the spark plug wires from the spark plug followed by cranking the car 10 to 15 times. This process allows the turbo bearings to get lubricated, prior to the first start.
