Help...Forward O2 Sensor removal/replacement

Does anyone have any tricks/tips to get to the sensor and remove it? I really don't want to remove the radiator and drop the whole O2 housing. I have enough room to get an open ended wrench on it, but the damn thing keeps slipping, stripping the bolt. Any advice will be appreciated.

Get an 02 crow-foot socket, makes the job much easier.

Thanks man......I just kept saying to myself "I'm sure when I did this 15 years ago there was a tool for it". Funny thing is when I asked the parts guy at Napa for a tool he tried to sell me a 7/8" socket.

Werd, that sensor costs 180 at Advanced Auto Parts, I didn't drop anything to pull the sensor. I just PB blasted the **** out of it, let it sit for like 30 mins, and broke it with a regular 7/8 wrench. It's much easier to get it from under the car btw.

On my DSM someone said to remove it with the manifold hot. So, I idled the engine for 15 minutes and it came out easy.

Be careful if you try this or you will be quickly tatooed.

Still no luck. Seized like an epileptic.

Wife talked me into taking it to the dealer. Got there @ 1115. Service advisor said it should be done by 1:30. 2:00 rolls around and he comes out to tell me that the tech could not get it out and it is now stripped. For all the trouble they tack an extra $125 onto the already existing bill (for a new total of $272), because he now has to take off the O2 housing.

Fine.......FORK IT!!! Just get the work done. Advisor says it will be another 2 hours to finish. Come 6:30 still not done........tech can't for the life of him wire in the Bosch Universal O2 sensor to the factory harness. Now they have to keep the car overnight (FOR A DAMN O2 SENSOR).

Automax.

I am positive that my failed attempts were part of the cause of the stripped sensor. Otherwise I would be paying the original $148 I was quoted. Seeing as how my sockets were't even grabbing the nut.....I chalk it up as being my fault.

However the slow *** pace they took to remove the O2 housing is all their fault. And now I have the joy of parking a frickin Hyundai Accent in the garage for the night. They should have at least given me an X to drive for all my troubles.

Hopefully you get your car back today, and it is good to go. It's pretty sad that the service was poor considering the fact that they are charging you for the additional labor

I am replacing my O2 housing, so I went the easy route and dropped the radiator. The O2 sensor was still a PITA to get out, but the additional space helped. Anytime you have to do work near the exhaust manifold, I would highly recommend just removing the radiator.
