You're running wastegate boost. Search on here for 12psi or wastegate boost as it's been covered a trillion times.

OP, definitely fix your intercooler pipe first and then see where you stand.

i dont see how any of them problems you named can be linked right back to a mbc being turned up to high. and the fact that your spark plugs are fouling is a dead give away the car wasnt lean, it was rich....

anyway, fix the licp first, then start trying to diagnose the problem if its not fixed after the new pipe

that all depends on mods
a stock evo is not gonna make as much power per psi as a fully built 37r turbo on meth....

there is no set number as far as power per psi

Get a tune!! You can't just crank the boost whenever you want to!

I mean....that's like going to a ***** house without a condom.......just makes no sense not to be safe!!

I'm getting a tune on mine this week. Hopefully clear it up with no mech issues. I just got this car, so I have little to no idea what's going on with it, and it's my first Evo. Previous Mitsu was the old Ralliart.

Just make sure you get any underlying issues fixed before you tune

I've been searching all day. Found plenty of references to "wastegate boost" and "12 psi" but no explanations as to what is actually going on. So is the assumption that the wastegate is faulty/broken or that it is something in the tune that is causing it to behave that way?

TTT cuz if that wastegate might be broken I need to get a new one ASAP or my whole Friday could be wasted (pun intended).

The stock boost control probably isnt hooked up right... Previous owner stripped the mods and just made the car drivable.

Instead of guessing online take the car to a mitsu shop like CBRD and theyll be able to give you a list of everything that needs to be fixed or replaced.

Cheers!

just like what is 4ws said if you are not mechanically inclined might as well bring it to a reputable shop. they could definitely diagnose the issue. also you could look for a tuner who could help you make your car run good and safe and give you suggestions on how to upgrade the car later down the road.

If I were you and in PA,
I'd take it to CBRD if you live in east pa.
Or Buschur if you live in west pa..
They will tell you what you need to fix and then for gods sake get a good tune.
And start reading the forums alot, or you are gonna do serious damage to the car.
