Loose Injectors

Anyone ever do a boost leak test and find that your injectors are leaking like a ****.
Although my idle wasn't affected sometimes the car had a hard time to start and it's certain above 10 psi air was pissing out.

Anyways, i filed down the spacers that are between the fuel rail and the intake manifold by 2mm and now they are nice and snug.

Im running a high flow fuel rail and an AMS intake manifold. The shop that installed my 750cc injectors deserve a kick in the nuts for letting me take the car out with loose a$$ injectors and delaying my tune progress.

Worse thing is that my 2 previous tuners never picked up on this which indicates they probably have no idea how to do the injector scaling and trim and in turn means the car had a whole lot more power to be had.

I suggest if anyone is having issues to simply take 2 mins to see if your injectors can twist with no force at all...

my 2 cents

I commented about leaking injector seals (this forum,on June 27th) but yeah, other members have discovered these seal leaks during boost leak testing. However, I don't think you should necessarily blame the tuner for not finding it. I had a tune shortly before I discovered the leak, but I can't fault anyone but myself. The car was showing 20 psi on the boost gauge, but the injector seal was leaking badly, like yours. The turbo was overcoming the leak. Secondly, and more to the point, I didn't do a boost leak test before I took the car to get tuned. Almost any tuner will tell you to do so before you get it tuned. I didn't pay him to do a leak test. I am sure that he would have told me if he thought I had a leak. I didn't know it, and he didn't know it. It was my responsibility (unless I asked and paid for the service.)

Any way, I agree with you about the injectors seeming too loose. I put new seals, o-rings, etc in all four injectors, and I was certain that I would still have a leak. But, I didn't. I leak tested up to 28 psi and no more problem (with the seals.) I do know that the injectors still turn by hand pretty easily but they are leak free

Tom, only in a sizeable leak will you see a huge increase in load, which is a tale tale sign of a boost leak, on littler leaks it is hard to see load increases. Best to do boost leak testing before any tuning takes place to ensure everything is tip-top

This is the thing, he noticed something was wrong when adjusting my injectors. We were doing the middle trim and the dead time tolerances were out during cruising.

Which means that the other tuners must not have followed the dead time tolerance limits and just tuned blindly.

Well i know Tamer uses Mitsulogger, and that program is much easier to figure out fuel trims with, Evoscan is a pain when it comes to fuel trims! Sounds like he is really getting your car to the potential is needs to be, I am happy for you buddy!

And since you can do the boost leak testing with the car not running, you can hear the air escaping much more easily. I do mine using high PSI compressed air from an air bubble, so there's no compressor noise either...
