AMS 2.3 Stroker sounds like a desiel...

I finally finished my swap and got everything all bolted up. My bottom end is a AMS 2.3 stroker, head, IM and TB is all stock. I'm also running 1200cc injectors with a 3582r.

Upon startup it sounded like a desiel! This thing sounds soooo bad. At first I though I had a bad bottom end, but I checked the oil, and there is no sign of a spun bearing. everything feels great as far as driving, but it just sounds so bad...

I did some research and I guess these ceramic coated pistons take a while to heat up and have some degree of piston slap... How do you guys feel about this?

Well you could have pistons slap if they ptw clearances are huge, and the ceramic coating isnt allowing the piston to warm up and expand like they are suppose to. Why dont you call up ams since they know the specs on your motor they should be able to help you out.

Did you buy the motor from another member or ams?

I just spoke with them and they said to send it in and they'd warrenty it. Sucks that I have to pull this whole thing back out of the car though. What a process...

Did you put in a twin plate clutch when you built it? Some can be quite loud.

Is your car tuned for the 1200's? Try starting it with stock size injectors. Double check your timing and double check everythign else....do a compression test, leakdown test, and a boost leak test....do you have a massive exhaust leak?

Find the problem.

Make sure it is in time. I've heard noises similar to this and it was the valves lightly tapping the pistons. Eventually one gives up and breaks the valve head off and smashes it into the piston.

Mellon Did the tune. I will double check with him and see if he can offer any help. Timing is dead on. Thats what I thoght it was at first, but I took everything apart and re did it and timing is dead on. Couldnt get any better.

I have not done a compression test, thats an awesome idea!! I did do a boost leak test as suggested by mellon before tuning.

Yes Mellon did the scalling, and it idles fine.

I will double check for the 4th time, but I've done a lot of 4g timing belts and none have ever had this kind of result. I was so paranoid about the valve situation that I switched out the cams for stock.

The only thing I can think of is maybe I could have a **** load of bad lifters? I beld them per mitsu tech manual.

Mellon is an excellent tuner --- no fault there. Is there just crazy lifter tick, or is this robbing you of power as well?
