My friend has a 6 speed evo 9 (we only get 6 speed here...)
Whos planning a gt35r with stroker motor, the whole 9 yards
But he doesnt want to go down to a 5 speed, so my question is will a 9 6 speed transmission hold up to 600+awhp?
We got the 9 with all bells and whistles(ayc) and stuff...
Where can He buy a built 6 speed tranny? or get stuff to make it hold up...

Again thanks for info..

from what i understand as long as your not going to auto x the car you should be fine. 4th gear is what overheats when you auto x for a long period of time

I have yet to see an auto-x that uses 4th gear. usually 1st and 2nd and sometimes 3rd is the most on the course I have seen.

I've heard that TRE rebuilds 6 speeds but recently heard that he's hiatus and isn't responding to his customers. You can try to contact him but I can't guarantee if he'll respond.

+1 TRE sells gears for the 6 speed or is going to soon. If he want's to push it i would say a trans cooler would be worth it. The weak link in the 6 speed is 4th and most will agree when it fails it's due to heat not power.

Been down this road. You won't get an anwser from TRE, unless you know the guy (can't remember his name) or know someone that does.

Sorry Built 5 spd is all your gonna get. Not sure what the problem is, unless your auto xing the car there's no advantage. And with that kinda of power i'd hope you'd take it too a real track.

I'm saying this becuase i have an MR

I have a 6 speed that held up to 435awhp in 100 degree weather... I now have a 2.3 stroker with a 35r and am planning on keeping the 6 speed. If I blow the 6 speed, I'll go throught the hastle of swapping out the 6 speed for the 5, but from what I've read, its a real PITA. You need all kinds of crap to make this work like the 5 speed cables, shifter box, misc washers and pins, hard lines, rahrahrah. You pretty much need a salvage car to rob the parts from or you're going to pay out the *** at the stealership for these parts...

gotta pay to play i guess.

I have a 9 MR with a six speed and will be upgrading to a 5 speed from Shep. I am going to do the evo 8, 3rd & 4th gear and a custom 5th gear to hit 200 MPH and for highway driving.

There was a transmission guy out of Denver that was building the 6 speeds and even they were failing.

how long would a 6 speed with tranny cooler hold up to a hta35r on 30 psi....just occasional (but frequent) pedal to metal situations on a daily driver?

going to a 5speed is not going down.. its going up actually.. end of the day the case is the same size and has to hold 6 gears vs. 5.. everything on 5speed is larger and stronger.. I wouldnt even consider 600+ hp on 6speed honestly.. we almost always upgrade our customers to 5 speeds to save them money in the long run when the 6speed comes apart..
