Hello Friends!!!
Now I have about 4000 miles on my Evo and I’m getting ready to buy a clutch for that special day when mine finally goes. I will be adding a hard line but leaving my restrictor in because I’m not planning to drag race.
Act Clutch
Now I have a good buddy in FL (Evo1) Jeff and he installed the Act Unit with the stock flywheel that was re-surfaced. Jeff commented on how happy he was with the new clutch and the only down side was the fact that paddle was harder to push in. My understanding is Act is using the stock disk and a higher pressure, pressure plate. I trust Act because of there experiences in building high quality parts and the fact that is the cheapest option is very appealing. About 500 bucks
Exedy Twin Disk,
I have also heard very good things about this set up and it seams to be a complete unit with fly wheel. Not cheap but I don’t need to save money one this part of the car because the install is complex and expensive. The less times I have to do it the more money I save in the long run. This option is about 1300 bucks but also comes with a high quality Japanese company backing it and lighter fly wheel. I have used this clutch in my WRX and loved it.
CM
Forget it, Never heard good things about this company and would not even think about putting this in.
Just really looking for comments from users of the exedy clutch system. I’m looking to hold about 325whp but most importantly enjoy my car and not have to do a clutch again for many years.

The Exedy holds exceptionally well, and is a quality unit. It is also expensive and noisy. If you can live with the latter - then go with it for sure.

You can't go wrong with Exedy. ACT is also a good cheaper choice. CM's a waste of time. I dunno how they stay in business. I've friends who used to have CM that now use ACT because CM just sucks! Go with what you know and are experienced with. Since you already had an Exedy on your WRX then go for it on your Evo.
BTW, I have the Exedy single disc and have nothing bad to say about it. A good choice for someone who wants a quality clutch kit, but can't afford the Exedy twin disc kit.

Since I have no personal experience on my own car (excluding driving others), and hope that no one comments unless they do, I just want to watch the thread...

OK here is my take on the HD ACT. It feels more solid and is smoother than the stock unit. The stronger spring in the pressure plate produces noticabley better lock up and only requires a little more leg to actuate it. The disk is more aggressive but not much, it is still easy to slip it and is very controlable. It is not a rebuilt oem as some suggest, but as advertised it is definately a street setup and not a for racing as you can over heat it without a lot of effort. It would not be my choice if I were planning more than a 100HP increase over stock or if I were going to race even a stock power level car. For the price it is a very good replacement for the stock unit. Yes, I have one on my car.
I have the HKS GD Max twin disc and it works perfect very smooth and holds 600 hp .If you are looking for the bank for the buck get the ACT
what you guys think of the HKS clutch and flywheel combo? would ACT then be a better choice for my evo 8? will it hold 400 plus hp?

I have a 2900 and 6puck sprung. == I hate it. I would never put it in -- the PO did.
I have driven THOUSANDS of miles on an exedy twin HD.
It was perfect. It is what I will be upgrading to. Period. anything from DD to drag racing.

OH - i didnt see your 325 total. ACT heavy and a street disk will be your friend. SMOOOOTTHHHEEE engagement. Cheap. Toss in an ACT flywheel - and enjoy your car.

Cusco and I think hks twin plates are the same as exedy, just more expensive. Anybody that told you the exedy doesn't hold up was either making too
much power for a twin, or doesn't know how to drive on a twin disk.
I have about 22k of DD miles with 30+ 11 second passes on my stock IX turbo and 1 track day, no problems at all. It's very easy to drive on (not as easy as stock, but no aftermarket clutch is), just a little noisy.
