Question FP Red Road Course Evo's

Well we all know how good the FP Red performs on the dyno and on the ¼ mile, but what about the road course side of things.

It doesn't’t matter if you’re an avid HPDE’r, Time Attack or Time Trial runner, or the local SCCA auto-x’r.

I just want to know how many FP Reds are out there and how successful they are on the track, like our quarter mile predecessor's.

Just a few questions that Im curios about:
- How many FP Red Evo’s track their car on road courses?
- Do you use the current FP oil feed line or a other brand?
- How many failures of the FP Red have occurred on road courses?
- How long have you been tracking your car with the FP Red?
- Any other Pros/Cons

Thanks...

I'm curious about other people's thoughts on this turbo. But not sure how you're expecting these questions to get answered. Here's my stab:
- I say 37
- I use another brand from RRE
- I would say 1
- I don't have a FP Red
- None at the moment.

any info is good info..

I also want to know how well the FP Red is holding up to on-and-off WOT's for constant extended periods of time...

Whats the point of guessing then More than one red has failed also...but their are various reasons for that.

u will see there several time attack evos on fp red , u can see what they have acomplished ,

if fp tells u u need a special oil line , then u need it buddy , the fp red i have seen with problems have been because of using the standard old oil line an where running high boost

This is exactly what I am building this winter. I already have the FP-Red in hand with 80mm housing and the type 2 install kit for EVO8. Oil feed will come from oil filter housing. My big decision was whether to go with the GSC S2 at the same time or start with the GSC S1. I have GSC S1 now on stock turbo.

My current plan is to install the red, stainless O2 housing, with ported stock exhaust manifold and keep the S1. Baseline this new setup on the dyno, then have Aaron & English Racing dyno tune for optimum power and torque. With that done, it is off to drive at several events, while comparing the FP-red setup to how the S1& stock turbo setup performed at those same tracks. Following that, I'm guessing I'll put in a S2 and repeat the process.

I plan to log while driving as much as possible. I had Aaron at English install a 4 bar sensor and modify my EVOscan to log it so we can log boost off the sensor vs reading the gauge via serial. I am anticipating that short technical tracks and autoX will favor the Stock Turbo and S1 cam. Wide open tracks will let the red and the S2 really shine. I will have to see how well I can adjust to the available power. I'm at the point where the best upgrade is quickly becoming making mprovements to the nut behind the steering wheel.

I just checked out their website and the only Evo VIII or IX running the FP Red was Nils...

Im going to run the red on my built 2.3 stroker next season. Car will be doing auto-x, redline time attack, and some other track events. Plus drag racing and DD.

I'll report results then lol.

I have the red and for a autox car I think the HTA Green is better suited for that type of driving style. I really feel the red is more of a drag turbo only because of the lag and the lag between gears. I can run thru the gears but When I shift and and get off the clutch and got WOT in the next gear there is a half a second delay for full boost coming back on

I installed a Red last fall but haven't been back to the track yet. It will see track time though for sure. That's why I got it. For street or autocross, a Green or BBK would have been perfect. For drag, a 35R. The Red is right in between. I don't think it will be too laggy at all for the road course.

Hey Sean, yea I have a whole plethora of parts installed including the FP Red, but have yet to pick it up due to the slim fan I have being to large for the turbo.

I was still wondering on the performance of the turbo pretty much because of the experiences you've encountered and not seeing to many FP Red equipped track cars.

I thought last year that both R. Gates and AMS TAX were running the FP Red on their X's at Super Lap Battle out on the West Coast. I might be wrong, but I thought they were. I know both of them, along with Nils, ran times that were extremely close; like tenths off of each other.

I know that both Gates and AMS TAX are running a different setup now.

For my own research benefit; what kind of power are you FP Red guys putting down? I'm thinking of upgrading the turbo for the road course next year and this one's on my potential list. Reason being, I think I can install this w/o a full blown turbo kit? I'll be on race gas...
