The EGR is mostly needed for emissions and is not needed on a "track" car.
The reason one would eliminate it would be to help keep intake temps lower as it allows hot exhaust gas to flow through it when it opens. You eliminate the egr by removing it and bolting a plate over where it bolted to intake and seal off passage where hot exhaust gasses pass through thus lower the intake temps, thats all. The weight savings, while minimal is still a savings as well.

It will throw a CEL but you can disable the EGR in the ECU to get rid of it. There's a few post on it in the ECU Flash section

You can't. It would require removing the IM and blocking off the hole by welding it closed.

EGR is a waste on any car, DD or track car. It just decreases performance and is a bunch more vacuum lines that you gotta worry blowing off under boost.

What kind of gains can be had for blocking this off? Any numbers?
My IM gets retarded hot as it is and this bugs me. I just did an IM spacer and IMO still hottttt as hell. Im sure this kills my output a little.
Is this easy to swap on and off for emissions if needed? Can I pass if this is blocked off and shut off in the ECU?
If I remember correctly this is basically right under the throttle body area?

The eBay ones are cheap and they work just fine, otherwise if you want to spend a bit more FFWD and STM make nice ones. I personally spent the few extra dollars to get the STM since it looks nice with recessed hex cap bolts. Make sure you get a new gasket form Mitsu too.

The gains by blocking off the EGR are reduced intake temps and cleaner IM/TB. This really won't help you pick up any power, but over time by keeping your intake track cleaner it will possibly prevent you from losing power. You may see more consistent power with the cooler intake manifold though (also block off the coolant lines running to the throttle body). You may notice a slight reduction in fuel mileage too, but it won't be anything huge. Also, cleaning up the emissions systems from your engine bay will help clear out the clutter.

For most cars, this modification will yield no real benefits and just give the police one more reason to give you a ticket....For a track car, sure ....but street not worth it IMHO....
