Yeah. I'm in the Air Force. Today actually marks 4 years I got my orders in November '08 to move to Italy and had to extend my enlistment to come out here lol. But I plan on staying in for the long run, so it didn't really bother me too much.

stock turbo is water cooled also so you dont need a tt, if you where driving real hard then just wait ten seconds or so before shutting the car off . i bet there's less then 5% of people on this forum that have tt w/stock turbo just cause theres no need for it

EDIT: BLKCarbonEVO beat me too it
I paid like 23K for it. Only has like 24K miles on it. I had planned on doing something about it, but apparently Utah is pro-screwing-the-customer on used vehicles... There is no lemon law on used cars, and on the page, when you're signing for the vehicle, where either "Warranty" or "no warranty - as is" is checked, if the latter is checked, then there is no grace period for the reliability of the car after purchase...
I was pretty pissed. But I've come to accept that I got hosed and I'm just happy that my car will be running again

Nice I hit my 3years in the Navy two days ago! I'll be putting in my officer package in December so we will see where that goes. What do you do in the Air Force?

Nice! I'm actually working to get my bachelors to do the same thing lol.

I'm in Munitions Systems, otherwise known as AMMO. I work in the bomb dump in the Stockpile Surveillance shop. We're responsible for inspecting munitions whether it be periodic or pre-issue.
It's alright. Handling explosives is pretty fun lol
what about you?

So I've come to realize that parts from my car probably came from different evo ix's...

Is this normal?

And if not, why would they hack away at the block like that? what kind of fitment issues would there be?

Same for you. I know you're going through similar problems. I read your thread. It's a terribly expensive inconvenience... Maybe you'll get lucky though and find out there was foul play while in the shop, and they'll have to cover the costs.

Whats messed up is that the shop is saying that it is not their fault and he will still charge me for the upgraded block and labor. I wasnt even thinking about that...i told him that i want the car back to normal again.

Well good luck with everything
It's always sad to see an Evo take a dive... But it's exciting to see it built back to life. Which is why I decided to share my engine swap. I've been so excited the last couple weeks, getting everything ready for the swap lol

My clip on hood lamp.

I bought that one from a local Pepboys I was employed at as a mechanic a few years back. It's made by Buffalo Tools and the part number was AUFLIGHT. Think they were selling them for $40 even and I got it even cheaper with my discount. They didn't last long though since they were so inexpensive. The warehouses depleted their inventories within two weeks.

That one also detaches from the hood clamp to become a giant drop light. The ends are raised so the tube doesn't get scratched when it rolls around. And the hood clamp is padded and spring loaded so it auto adjusts to hoods.

They can also be had on the tool trucks, but at a much greater price.

OK so John has the motor ready for removal... he would have done it tonight but needs a cherry picker lol so the project it on hold til tomorrow. But he did take a few pics of the engine ready to come out :-)

Andrew - On the right, helping out... on his iPod or phone or whatever ;-) lol

Where the heck do these go??

John found out why the motor stopped working... It wasn't the whole in the block or oil pan... It was running a little too lean

Just about ready to pull.

More tomorrow!!
We'll know if the T-case is still good as well. I really hope it is, at least until I can come up with the dough to replace it... Which likely won't be til February

Make sure you replace the oil cooler and wash out the lines really good if you reuse them!

The new engine came with the cooler and lines so I'll just be using those ones and will be disposing of the old ones.

Sorry for the delay lol, they had a little trouble getting the throwout bearing to release. But it's all good now and I thought I'd show some more pics!!

She's all ready to come out

Andrew's way of saying 4G63 FTW!!!
When the P.O. wasn't a complete F**ktard with the poor Evo anyway...

WOO HOO!!!

Found another hole on the back of the motor after the pull... same 3rd cyl. blew out both sides and through the oil pan

A comparable size . And a crack from the hole to the oil pan

Inside the hole... the bottom right looks like broken sea shells lol

Picture of the engine bay and the new motor waiting to go in

Tranny ready to be cleaned

More to come tomorrow!! Hopefully lol if not, then I'll have updates on Saturday
She should be ready to roll at the end of the weekend! Then she's off to get tuned
