don't do it! no top bracket and straight end tanks will cause for big headaches. Intercoolers don't add power themselves, but rather lets you create more.

The stock evo IX intercooler is good enough til 600ahwp I think, nd besides, most people only get new intercoolers if they install insanely big turbo's, run very high boost or install cams you could nuke China with.

As far as cooling, the factory intercooler works well. However, it doesn't flow as well as the aftermarket units that have 1/4" and 3/8" tubes. So you end up with higher pressure drop with the factory unit.
Even the ebay IC that has the angled inlet/outlet ports doesn't fit properly, however, people are stretching and flexing the factory couplers to make them fit, which isn't good.

^ No one said that, all that has been said is that this is not the best design. Assuming your car is stock or close to it you would be better off making other modifications and coming back to the intercooler when your ready to turn the boost up or move to a larger turbo. Do some reading this forum is a wealth of information.

stock IC should be fine for a while as TTP have proved.

I personally have an Ebay core and it works well. i have personally made over 500whp on another car with a smaller 3" Xo2 racing core in dead summer with no knock. I have a 4inch on my Evo now

Now although it works well, does not mean that you will not see an improvement with a better core like ETS or even better like Buschur and CBRD/JMfab Garret cores. In dead of summer it will deff allow for a better control over knock or if you are maxing out a smaller turbo and pushing a **** load of hot air into the intake stream

This one will work on the turbo side with an aftermarket LICP fitting right up to it. The Intake side will likely need the stock coupler retrofitted unless you have one off piping for a true side bottom exit IC, which is not common.

For reference once I get another $800 or so, I will be upgrading to the CBRD/JMFab core because it is a very solid core with a well thought out end tank design

Mishimoto is coming out with a new 7/8 evo specific radiator that should net you some power, if you want to wait
