Bought a used turbo and found this...

Bought a used IX turbo from an EvoM member...it was a very fair deal, seller was honest and genuine. the turbo has an 'upgraded' compressor wheel and came right off his car earlier this week in favor of a red. the turbo arrived on my door step in a mangled box so i feared shipping damage from the start. the wga is a bit dinged up which doesnt concern me cus i will swap it with my current one. this dent in the comp housing inlet however does worry me. it took a pretty serious blow either in transit or during removal from the car. this comes with the territory of buying used parts and i dont suspect foul play by the seller.

check out the pics below...im wondering if this dent may cause leak or airflow problems. the blow formed a lump on the inner circumference of the inlet as can be seen in some of the close-up pics. i always use t-clamps so im pretty sure i can make a good seal its more the lump interfering with airflow im worried about. this will be used in a pump gas setup so nothing more than 25psi

should i try to grind it smooth and flat or just run it as is and see what happens? thanks everyone

do the blades drag at all on the inlet? if not, just get the little lump off then end and dont mess with it. you could end up causing more trouble than you started with. just my 02.

nothings going to happen--it will run fine--all things being as you have said. If it bothers you get some fine sand paper and sand it until satisfied.

doesnt look like it would affect to much as long as the blades do not rub.

thanks everyone...the dent is on the very outer portion of the inlet so the blades do not touch it. the wheels spin like butter

my evo 8 wastegate fit on a fp green. You just have to preload the wastegate correctly.

looks like epic fail on packaging by the seller. I'd file a claim regardless.

No big deal, should work just fine. I wouldn't file a claim, maybe ask for a small portion of your money back.
