Simple questions I guess :)

Hello,

a friend of mine has an Evo IX which he drags quite a lot. He has the chance to exchange his 6 speed gearbod for a 5 speed one, from an Evo VIII. Is it worth it? By this, I mean:

1. Is it more solid? Will it last longer being launched and all?
2. Is it better for drag, performance wise? Talking about the quarter mile drag.

Thanks a ton in advance for the answers!

Search 5 vs 6 speed. This horse has been beat to death. To vaguely answer your qurstions, yes.

Smike him down.

Since I have read many threads on this... I am still curious if (because I have never seen the answer)
A) changing your fluid more readily
and/or
B) adding a mission cooler

will allow the 6spd to last comparible to the 5spd.
As stated many times heat is what kills the 6spd mission

you have a little bit higher top speed with a 6 speed, but gears are shorter than a 5 speed, it goes hand in hand, personal preference, i have heard that the 6 speeds do last a little longer though
