Question Tighten' up MR 6-speed?

I would like to stiffen' up my gf's MR 6-speed shifter without replacing the actual shifter. I have done some searching so if you are thinking of telling me to use the search then save your fingers.

I found out that Buschur has the assembly base bushings and the 2-piece underhood bushings. I also learned that some people are having issues with the underhoood's.

I have the 5-speed with both sets of bushings and a counter-weight knob that feels pretty good. I would like to hear from other 6-speed owners. Thanks.

Dave

I have the Buschur Shifter Bushings (not base bushing) and it works....I see Dave now makes a base kit as well, so I should consider that....For me the biggest issue is that I wish the throw was a little shorter...

I have Buschur's underhood bushings...they've been on my car for two years...only precaution I took was I soaked them in white lithium grease before I installed them

they are HANDS DOWN the best non-performance related mod I've installed

they make the shifter feel so much better it's honestly unbelievable at first

I also have the underhood bushings and will be soon be rockin' the shifter base bushings. Between the underhood bushings and the S.S. clutchline (along with removing the slave cylinder pill), I'm going ot have to agree with chaotichoax and say these ARE the best non-performance mod to date.

Well, that is great info! Thanks. My gf just always says that she likes the feel of my EVO than hers.

So no troubles of getting into certain gears then? And I heard that anti-sieze is good too.

Another vote for replacing the underhood bushings; it definitely made a big difference. I got the SpeedSource bushings, and they were a great upgrade for ~$30.

the underhood bushing won't have any negative impact...they just make shifts more precise...only time you'd have an issue is if they seize up

Hence why you rec. to soak them in grease?

This is my next planned mod, glad I ran across this because I was curious how ppl liked B.R. underhood bushings

you wanna soke them in some lithium grease so that they dont seize up and plus it will keep them from corroding and also nice easy firm shifts

You can use anti-seize as well. Works has a short shifter for the 6sp. I couldn't really justify spending that much on one w/o feeling it first. And I've never met anyone with one installed on their 6sp to try out.

you can't just purchase it from them however...works or an authorized works dealer has to install it for you and they take your core

there are very few people that have their 6 speed short shifter kit

it always made me curious why no other companies ever attempted to produce one

Probably due to the perceived liability or complication of correctly implementing the reverse lockout and getting the customer to correctly install the reverse lockout for the 6MT.
