HKS EVC-S Boost Controller - anybody?
Finally understood how to tune basic boost settings for my EVC-6
1. set your pressure unit to psi (unless you kPa)
2. set your exhaust bypass type to "S" (unless you have external set it to P)
3. set your maximum normal boost 2 psi (or kPa) lower then what your waste is rated max; the reason for this is stepper motors turn on at whatever level you set it at in this section and then try to react to what max boost is; stepper motors are slower than solenoids; but if you set it to lower it wont work properly because i try setting it to 8 psi and it was just acting screw (imho - maybe because of the learning mode reading boost level input incorrectly due to input settings with proper logically numbers) for stock 9 turbos i set this to 12.5 since waste spring is 14.5(give or take a decimal)
4. set initial boost to what you are trying to hold at. (you want 16psi instead of the stock 14psi set it to 16psi or higher at your own risk)
5. leave initial offset at 100 (you will use offset in basic setting group to control spikes)
now you are ready to go
At this point you should see that A mode and B mode are the same as what you set in step 4, P.H. should be cleared to zero, find a spot where you can get consistence number to set offset (please on a dyno)
Do one pass to redline and see what the P.H read (most likely over boost)
Press the button under the volume button to get to the basic setting for offset control
Keep trying down the number after each pass till you get to P.H.(or spike
) you want and you should be done
Depending on where you live or what time of the day it is, you might have to increase or decrease the offset so you wont over boost (but spiking up .1 - .4 is fine as long its not pass.5 or . 6)
There was a post on here that basically explained this and i would like the guy who made that post to chime in and take the credit.
I now never have over boosting or spike problems anymore and my car runs great, my A mode psi is 16.0 and my B mode psi is 18.0 (btw i have head studs installed)
Did i miss anything?
If you have any questions or live in the area pm and ill try to get back asap
I will like to apologize for all the negative things i send about this boost controller because in my honest opinion HKS went over board into build the best boost controller on the market; the difference from the evc-6 and evc-s is boost map tune ( much easier through easywriter) and i think scramble boost controller and that the 6 uses a stepper motor and the S uses a solenoid. i dont have any experience with the S so if anyone can tell me how it is ill get it for my AE86 corolla
