Just had my Tranny/Transfer Case/Rear Diff fluids all changed to Redline Synthetic fluids (MT-90 for Tranny, 75w90 for others) and HOLY CRAP can I feel a difference!

Any little decelleration noise I had is gone. The notchy-ness of the shifter is gone. The smoothness of shifting now is amazing.

Definitely recommended to change those fluids as soon as you can. It helps a ton!

There was very little metal flakes attached to my magnetic drain plugs.

At 14,500 miles if you need to know.

 

my car doesn't have very many miles on it but i plan to change the fluids soon!

 

I too noticed an improvement in shifter feel after changing the fluids. But the biggest change came from taking out the stock rubber bushings for the shifter assembly and replacing them with metal ones. NOW that's a difference.

 

Did you have any rationale for picking Redline over, say, Royal Purple ???
Or do you think that changing out the factory fluids to anything better is real message ??
Side Question - the factory fluids ( other than motor oil ) are not synthetic ???
I already had the oil done ( at the dealer ) but I haven't looked at the maintenance
schedule ( lazy?? ) to see when the others should be done.
You are not the first to report after changing all the fluids.

 

Redline was far more available for me to get. The differences between Redline and Royal Purple seemed very small.

The factory fluids in the tranny and others are not synthethic. Changing them to that may have helped more than specifically Redline fluids.

15k miles is the recommended change in the fluids for the Evo.

Side question - has anyone asked about or gotten the shop manuals for the evo ??? Are they expensive ??

Well i can vouch for the difference between the bushings... It was night and day - installed the perrin short shifter, new momo shift knob, and energy suspension bushings for the shifter... WOWOWOW... I feel like i'm driving a new and improved vehicle...

No more notchy feeling... smooth from bank to bank...

 

They're all VERY easy to get too. The only one that may be classified as slightly tricky is the transmission filler hole. It's up on the side of the tranny. Still pretty easy to get too.

 

How much did you have to buy for each (Tranny, Trans, Rear)? I am having difficulty locating how much oil I should buy. Also, could you post pics where to change the fluids at?

That shop manual would be a gold mine, but its a 404...

Definitely helped my car when I did it at ~3500 miles (Redline MT-90 for transaxle and NEO RHD for transfer case and rear diff). Same results with smoother shifting and less noise.

I'm doing my second engine oil change now (~7000 miles), then at 10000 miles I'm gonna redo the tranny. I had a fair amt of metal flakes on the drain plugs, hoping there will be less this time.

It's very simple. I used a pump and filled from below, or you can get a longer hose and fill from above. Don't need to remove the shield under the car, which is nice.

Per other advice, remove the fill hole before the drain plug, it helps drain better and you don't get screwed if you can't remove the fill plug for some reason. Also, try to keep the car relatively level so you don't overfil or underfill.

Red Line made a very noticeable diff. in my 3g gt so I plan to do the same substitution on my Evo at my second oil change. I wanted to make sure I did not have any tran.s prob.s before I made the switch. Thanks for the info. Fireball.

 

I just ordered 4 quarts of MT-90 and 2 quarts of 75w-90.

All together with shipping it came out to about 48 bucks from myoilshop.com

I cant wait to put this stuff in!!

I know this has been mentioned before, but I heard using a electric pump of sort is much easier than trying to snake through the engine compartment with a hose.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced pump to get somewhere?

Has anyone added tufoil to the tranny/diff. fluids? I've had a very favorable experience with it in engines and they say it can be used in the tranny/differentials.
