Major clutch problem! Help
I was cruising on the hwy in 5th today when I saw uncoming traffic in my lane. I dropped to fourth, accelerated then shifted back into 5th. Well, when I shifted into 5th the clutch pedal went completely to the floor...and stayed there! I just knew that I had blown my motor. I coast to the side of the road and the car is still running fine. I look underneath the car for leaks and the coast was clear. Lifted the hood and everything seemed fine?!? I shut the car off and the pedal was instantly hard as a rock. I call over a friend who has worked on a few evos and he we tried to bypass the clutch. He adj the slave cylinder under the hood to where it would stay stuck in an "open" position. We were able to start it and shift to through the gears. At that point I knew that the motor and tranny were fine. I was less than a mile away from my house so I drove it and shifted clutchless home. Yes, I know it thats not recommended but I got home safely. The weird part about it was that the car shifted and drove like it did off the showroom floor. I went ahead and purchased a clutch set and flywheel today too. My main concern that there is something more than just a clutch install. I called another friend, who used to work on my galant vr4, and he stated to me that it sounds more like a hydraulic problem and that a clutch replacement wont help.
*Also my clutch had been chattering and slipping real bad for the past couple of weeks.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Exact same issue Im having. I know for a fact that my clutch is going or just about gone. 59,000 miles of use and abuse. But after this happened the first time the other day I actually pulled the clutch pedal back up and I drove it away and drove for another day or 2 with no more issues then it just happened again this morning. My good friend also said the same thing, its hydraulic since if it was mechanical it wouldnt come and go but just stop working altogether.
Any other experiences like this? Im just gonna order a clutch and do that. My buddy also wants to bleed the clutch since thats never been done yet.

the retainer clip for the throw out bearing popped off. its an easy fix, but requires pulling the tranny to get to it. so if your clutch was acting up before this, now you get to replace it
Self Bump. I can believe this happened again!!!
The last time I replaced the slave cyl, clutch, flywheel, and TOB all at once. Im concerned because I dont know what it is? Im even more concerned because I feel that something is causing it to reoccur. Im thinking that if the install were done incorrectly the problem wouldve manifested a long time ago.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Just wondering if you solve this problem because it just happened to me friday, just after a 4th gear pull the clutch pedal was shuttering and vibrates a lot. I could shift only if I push a lot the clutch, went into gears fine but on the same day using the car slowly slowly going away as harder and hader to shift. I could roll if I pressed the shifter harder without being into gears, but at 0.2 mph
Anybody as and idea about this?
MAster doesn't seem to leak. Gonna check more tomorrow about the slave.
Thanks
