Shep rebuild was $1500... And yes that is the best! Anyone who build them stronger like Jacks or Dox Box are going to be a huge plus!

Do you have any experience to back that up or do just like to talk trash about something you know nothing about?

I've met Jack personnaly and have his built IX tranny and can say from experience that he's not a sham. I drove 600 miles to get the work done and would do it all over again cause I trust their work.

Just cause a shops name isn't whored out all over this site doesn't mean they are not as good as someone else.

I couldn't compare the two shops cause I've never delt with Shep but Jack's name is as good as gold to me.

tried callin dogbox and i guess they were busy, will attempt again tomorrow as I am in no rush. may wait till the end of oct to save up more and get a really good one.

Im really diggin the responses that everyone has given about these shops. I guess my karking idea is out of the question haha. As for Jack,Dogbox, and Shep, the choice goes on. Honestly these shops all seem to have quality work in their own different ways. It all boils down to quality service, which they all have, customer service, and turn around time. The thing I like about Shep is that you can call during their business hours and they are there to pick up and respond. Not the nicest, but they have a great staff. Havent tried Jack yet, and Dogbox seems a bit tied up. TRE is like finding osama, its damn near impossible but will be worth it if i can get ahold of em!

-- Im also glad I started a thread that may actually be of use for other fellow evoM'ers since this is such a big problem and big choice for all of us.

I can't thank you guys enough for the input though, this truly is one of the friendly-est forums I've ever been on by far.

Don't be too quik to dismiss a Company , We build the transfer cases for KarKing Auto here at Kormex trans . We mainly build for local dealers and shops , a small part of our buisiness is retail , we have been selling on eBay for the last 3 years woth a 100% positive feedback . KarKing sells the Evo transfer cases because they have more staff for eMails and internet sales and such.
If you want to know about us and value the opinion af Jon TRE or John Shepherd ask them about me , I'm Frank .

You can go with either of them and get a quality product and be assured that they stand behind their work as well as we do. They are stand-up guys .

I am not quick to judge nor am I trying to push away any type of business from these companies. I know that their parts are of quality work, but I am asking members here of customer service and personal feedback about these shops. Obviously Shep knows what they're doing since they are supporting alot of highly reputable shops like AWDmotorsports and such. I have friends that have used TRE and one here locally that has used Shep. No complaints at all. I didnt know about dogbox or jack until I started this thead. Which I am happy to say, that I am looking forward into doing business with dogbox.

My point is, this thread was not to start any obstruction of business with any of these companies, but to find out what people thought, and also to find out about these other great developing or unknown companies that are working out of a hole in the wall. Nor am I trying to disclose my opinion on well maintained and staffed companies. Obviously these guys are doing something right to be known nationwide by most of us Evolution enthusiasts as well as the DSMer's.

Thanks again for all the feedback and help guys. Like I said, this is probably one of the greatest forums I've been on by far.

I had a Shep rebuild my tcase and transmission before I even drove my car. The only knocjk is it took a while but they are that popular so......

Just like with FP turbos....there is a long wait time for a reason.

I went Shep for my Tcase and rear diff. Had them both back in two weeks. Top notch service, spoke to John himself about exactly what I wanted to do with the parts and got what he recommended for my application. I DID NOT get the "best" part avialable because I don't need it. He recommended a more cost effective solution.

I'm sure other companies can build as well and provide just as good service. I chose to go with somebody I KNOW can pull it off though and has YEARS of experience in making parts designed for a 300HP car go stupid fast.

^^ Honestly why people even talk about TRE anymore is amazing. The guys doesn't want business other wise he would pick up the F8nking phone. He's a flake, anyway that being said i'm a fan of SHEP not saying there any better then anyone else, but I've owned a couple DSM's in the past and have been very pleased with there trans ( i know were talking about T-cases), and the customer service.

Any reputable transmission shop like shep or dogbox can do the 6 to 5 swap, just costs a bit more money...

6spd to 5spd I heard is very worth it. As for Shep and DBR, its like a coin flip. They are both great. I talked to Shep again and they know whats goin on with my Tcase, and the DBR guys are really down to earth and are more focused on helping a fellow enthusiast than helping a fellow customer, if that makes sense..

Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of ring and pinions that DBR was recieving, they are no longer fixing the whine. The guy was very honest and basically told me that it was just some cheap India crap, its not OEM specific material, and not worth risking his reputation as a shop or as a builder over. He said my best choice is to get a very healthy OEM one and have him reshim the thing and all that other jazz.. So my hat goes off to Shep.

My only question is, if Mitsubishi isnt selling the ring and pinion at all, then how are these other guys getting them? Is it possibly the same cheap stuff DBR was getting, but only treated?

Its pretty sad that my car is 6years old and I still cant get some parts for it from the dealer.
