Should I reset the ECU periodically?

Is there any downside or upside to resetting the ECU from time to time? I don't have anything wrong with the car except for the "some days it feels fast and other days it feels slow" sensation that others have noticed.

If the adaptive programming (learning) aspect of the ECU tends to be conservative - in other words it sensed knock a month ago when you got a tank of poor gas - maybe it reduces engine performance needlessly. Seems like if there was no downside it would be smart to reset the ECU occasionally just to force it to start from scratch and forget any bad habits it has learned.

Do any of you smart folks who work with ECU mods have any suggestions?

all I've heard is that it takes about 500 to 1000 miles for your ecu to relearn fuel maps, I would think optimum performance would not be obtainable in this "learning" period

Caused my engine to idle at 1100 - 1400 rpm, 1400 rpm with the AC on. After about a week or so it went back to normal.
