Broken Tranny with only 800 miles?
Broken Tranny with only 800 miles?
A friend of mine got his EVO like a month ago. Yesterday he broke his tranny at the track. Was broken in propertly i think....and this was his third hard lunch...and it has only 800 miles...Is this possible?....i am still in shock
Well technically it could not have really been broken in properly if he was already at the track racing it on 800 miles. I know plenty of guys do it and get away with it, but it is definitely a risk. Also, I recommend that you change out your tranny fluid after the first 1000 miles before racing.
Anything can break if you try to break it. If this was your friends first time to a track and the first time he raced his Evo, then maybe he shouldn't have tried to launch it so hard. He should've just tried to get a feel for the way the car hooks up first. Instead of trying to bust a low et. my opinion.

He called the dealer, and apparently they a e a bit scared and concerned, he knows the manager there....his car will get there tomorrow...lets see what happends
Originally posted by:SE7EN The reason why i find this a bit hard to believe is, my friend has a lot of experience at the track and with AWD.....hey he has a VR-4 Galant with almost 600 HP.....he knows how to launch an AWD car...dont know why his EVO broke like that

I talked to a tech about this subject. He said you would need a very strong clutch to break your tranny. I drive my car very hard and went through a clutch. On the track too.
2 things, either your lying, or your tranny is seriously defective. The way ALL drive trains are built is for the clutch to go....

Either way...Its HIS fault, not mitsibishi's. Although if it was stock and he slipped the clutch at 3500; I would be upset. If he tried dropping the clutch at 6500 w/ 800 miles...open your wallet. No manufacturer officially warranties "raced" vehicles.
When I blow my tranny I'm not going to go ***** to mitsubishi about it. (Now thats planned for when I have my GT40 w/ Nitrous)
