Opinions on FP red setup

Anyone's opinion would greatly be appreciated. I am sending my 20g into fp to get converted into a 80mm red. Now, what I had originally intended to do was port the turbo out myself, weld the wastegate flapper shut and use the invidia tubular exhaust manifold and weld a external 44mm wastegate where the runners collect. Obviously the external gate would hold a more consistent boost level than using a actuator, but when I had talked to fp on the phone I was suggested to use a stock manifold with their wastegate. Input on this?

Yea, that's what most of them do is use the FP high pressure wastegate actuator. Don't have to weld yours shut, or weld on an external, none of that crap. Just use the new WGA. I really don't think you'll have problems with it. Plus it will save you a ton of work.

You are assuming that the FP actuator won't do an adequate job of controlling boost. How much boost do you intend to run anyway?

Just be careful, unless you are experienced. If you do something wrong, you will damage the housing, or make less power. Gasket-matching and smoothing the radius inside is the best and easy way to port it yourself. Doing more can and probably will result in bad things.

30-36psi. I'm not saying the fp actuator won't be adequate to control the boost, just that having and external gate would be more precise and consistent level. You figure a wastegate having a steel spring would be a more precise way to control boost rather than a rubber diaphragm operated by vacuum level to open the flapper.
