Strange Recall

I just wanted to post this because even after searching I haven't found this problem... might help some people.

I had an Evo VIII that put down about 400hp. It got to about 30-40k miles and starting making the wierdest noise when the car was in neutral no clutch. Like a woh woh woh sound. First thought, Throw out bearing. Nope. Clutch, nope. Flywheel, nope. What was it? I failed a few more times then took it to a Mitsubishi dealership in West Virginia. They took it right in, said, "Some VIII's have a gearbox recall, its just chatter" This was an Evo VIII 5 speed. The 5th gear grinded just a lil lil bit but seemed to stop after the dealership looked at it. Never made a sound again. *Sold*

Now I have an Evo IX MR with about 15k miles on it. I noticed a SIMILAR noise on it.. a bit more quiet. One of my friends said the stock clutch chatters on the IX's. Its only when the clutch is not pressed in, in neutral. Does this matter or does it need to go to the dealership? I only hesitate this time because I don't trust this dealership in florida... at.. ALL.

BTW the IX is 100% 100% 100% BONE STOCK.

Thanks guys.

If a letter didn't come to you in the mail from Mitsu it wasn't a recall.

Thanks gsrboi. I'll just write it off for now. I still have my drivetrain warranty on this car at least. So its not so worrisome.

barneyb, I'm not arguing but I will make the point the car was voided in warranty a thousand times over. The guy said to me

"This isn't something that effects all 8's" "Its more or less just a bad batch"

From the way we've seen Mitsubishi operate in the past ie: transfer case recall on dsm's... several failed even after the recall was done because as I was told again from the dealership

"If it wasn't leaking we we're told not to replace the yoke and seals, only defective parts"

So I have papers proving my TC was done TWICE. It was looked at when it only had 20,000 miles but I was told everything was great. Not sure what was replaced...Needless to say at 65,000 my rear wheels locked up on the highway.

So this being my 3rd Turbo AWD model from Mitsubishi it might be the last I own... I question a lot of things Mitsu does anymore.
