Smoke from Hood

Car:
2006 Evo IX
BR Race FMIC
BR Catless TBE
BR MBC
BR Intake Filter
BR SS O2
BR P&P Exhaust Mani
BR Ported Intake Mani
BR 65mm Throttle Body

Today, when I started the car, it starts normally and idles at 1500 RPM. After about 15 seconds, I threw it into reverse and gently let the clutch out to begin backing up. The RPMs dropped below 1000RPM so I put it in neutral. For about 5 seconds, the car was idling below 1000RPM and sounded like it was about to stall but didn't. Finally I noticed white smoke coming out from the hood vent. About about 5 seconds, I hit the throttle and bumped the idle up to 1500 RPM and the smoke disappeared.

Any ideas? This isn't the first time this happened and it seems to happen more often when it is cold outside (<50degrees).

Thanks

to my understanding white smoke with out water of course usually indicated headgasket. the drop in rpms could be some type of boost leak somewhere. Whether its intercooler pipes couplers or at the bov. check it out. why my rpms where dropping and come back up type deal i had a boost leak at the bov cable.

Did it rain? Could just be water steaming off the manni.. Thing heats up quick.

The real question is why did you stay in the car after you saw SMOKE coming from the engine. Open the hood look for the source, shut the engine off.

Could be fluids on the exhaust mani burning up. Is it wet in the area you live in currently? Also, a small exhaust leak could cause this in the morning. It looks like you have alot of BR exhaust upgrades. Something might not be sealing right away on cold start up, letting what looks like morning smoke out the tailpipe also come out from under the hood.

Best thing to do is on next cold start up, first pop the hood. Have someone start the car, then wait to see if you can narrow down where the smoke is coming from. My bet is the exahust mani area.

You may have an exhaust leak at the manifold, turbo or O2.
