There are usually studs in the O2 housing that are what the downpipe bolt up to. The spring loaded bolts that I have seen before are only there to keep them from loosening. They should always keep a positive connection between the downpipe and O2 housing. What you are talking about with allowing movement at the connection between the O2 and downpipe would require a joint. Different bolts won't do anything.

Mitsuorder - Did you need a spare 02 bung to be welded onto the Helix downpipe? Please PM me about this and we'll try to help you out.

Fireball - The Downpipe arrival dates are still looking good for end of November early December. We will be sure to keep everyone updated on this and not let too much excitement build up

Thanks,
Mike

Got mine and love it too pretty to be put under a car, almost felt bad about heat wrapping it and putting 3 coats of silver high heat coating on it

EVO drivers will blindly buy absolutely anything and think they know absolutely everything. Good luck with your down pipe with no flex section. How can a Performance site have clueless moderation and venders "amazing"

Is this Helix dp different than the XS Race pipe? Because it looks eerily similar to my untrained eye.

And here is a pic of the Helix dp - just for comparison.

if there is a donut flange and gasket where the o2 housing meets the dp then spring bolts are all that is needed to provide the necessacary movement.

Hello!

Mistuorder - We're going to be receiving samples in a few weeks. I believe tentative pricing is mid $200's at this point. It looks like an extremely difficult piece to produce!

Turbo Weapon - The factory design allows for enough play on the downpipe to prevent cracking issues. This is specifically attributed to the factory spring loaded bolts. Many cars employ this feature to allow enough play in the exhaust system to prevent cracking issues. This is why the factory unit does not have a flex section, and why many experienced tuners, such as the HKS unit (I believe HKS still retains one of the top 3 fastest EVO's at Tsukuba!) do not use a flex section.

Jansolo - I have not seen the XS pipe in person so I cannot comment!

Wadzii - Thanks

Gary

downpipes with no flex =

And before I hear all the "but it has a donut flange" bs, the stocker has a donut plus a flex.

The downpipe is the lowest part of the front of the car. If anything hits it, you rish gasket failure from the turbo on up.

good call

Unfortunately those cars you mentioned don't utilize stock soft Mitsubishi issue engine mounts. The average daily driven evo is subjected to much more engine flex with stock engine mounts then the Tsukuba cars you have named. Only a complete idiot would justify using a down pipe with no flex section on a street car with stock soft mitsu engine mounts.

Good luck.

Ok we're all going to die and burn up in an instance of spontaneous combustion because we don't have flex sections, and thanks for your kind words, I have mad respect for dsm guys as apparent by my choices in my mods but please don't talk down to the Evo community as a whole. So using your "logic" Buschur is an idiot for producing a rigid down pipe?

stock honda motor mounts are some of the gushyest there are, and what does honda use on 95% of their 4cyl cars? thats right, spring bolts and donut gaskets. it works and its cheap, and it provides a suprising ammount of movement. also rember the exhaust is on rubber hangers so the entire thing can move
