The funny thing with the evo's is you never really hear this question being asked, mostly because they are so strong. You might break a part inside during a launch, but you'll never hear about a broken bell housing like in the FWD SR20's... I'd say whoever is asking the question won't make enough power to break it so don't worry about it.

I think the stock trannys will for the most part stay together with what ever you through at them. The part we see fail all the time is the synchros which I blame on the clutches used.

I agree with JB and Emery, it really comes down to the driver and if s/he has the clutch adjusted properly.

05+ have the stronger transfer cases I''ll probably never go over 500hp myself.. I seen a guy grenade a 05 trans but he was quite dumb when it come to racing. I'm thinking he was in the 470ish range.

Ok so if these 5spds are so strong, then why would people run shep tranny's? (not being an *** simply asking)

I thought they weren't reliable past 420whp ish..... but i don't own a drag car...so....

That's another question with no concise answer dude. I mean an Evo tcase will function properly under normal driving conditions even at excessively high hp. Throw in a hard launch or two however and it's definately toast.

I mean there's guys on this forum with stock evos that are eventually breaking tcases due to launching and aggressive driving. There's no magic number of hp where **** will just stop working. I'd say if u plan on drag racing or doing a lot of auto-x a new diff is probably in your future otherwise use your best judgement

it depends on a few things how you drive your car mainly if you drag race it and launch hard then ur gonna kill it much faster if its road racing your gonna last a while. shep trannies are great upgrades because you get more insurance and the syncros are way better. especially the 5th gear syncro issue

A 5speed won't just let go at 420 hp but there's less room for error at that point when shifting at high rpm and high hp. If your shifting is smooth and on point you have less to worry about, where as if you are bending shift linkages and losing dog teeth due to sloppy work you may have issues

When I had shep put a wavetrac diff in my tcase I asked him at what point I should worry about the trans. He basically said the tranny won't break... It just may not shift too good after a season of hard wear
