Another Drivetrain Bites the Dust

I was cruising on the highway today and the transfer case whine went from barely noticeable to unbearable. I was like, well it's not that bad. I'll just get another case from Shep.

On a positive note. I'm getting the transmission and transfer case rebuilt at the same time. Which means nows the time to install my exedy twin disc

I was like, well, since I have to have everything out. I might as well install those Avid motor mounts I've been drooling over for a while now.

I also ordered a rear main seal, front main seal, PE timing belt, and all new timing components with a new valve cover gasket.

I'll post pics upon arrival of new parts.

I hear that a lot. I'm not happy it happened, but I am excited to drive it once it gets back together.

Thank god I have a garage to do it in. I'd be screwed if I had to do it in my driveway. It's the wrong time of year for that kind of thing.

I plan on it this spring. I'm already registered over there, just don't post much.

When I talked to a sales rep. they said once they get the transmission it will be two or three days before they rip it apart to see what's needed. Then they contact the customer and tell them what's going with and what it's going to cost. After that, they rebuild it within another 5-7 days and ship it back out to you. All together, it should be a good two weeks before you get the transmission back.

The way I see it is he's the best in the business so two weeks isn't an obscene amount of time to wait.

Just a heads up, I had a similar situation of where I started to hear a little grinding/whining faintly going down the highway. By the end of the day it was howling. Couldn't figure it out. Replaced the tcase. Turned out to be a wheel bearing. And this was at 20k miles. I talked to step on the phone and he said it was really odd for a tcase to just start whining going down the highway. Just letting you know before you drop a grip and it not fixing the problem. Unless you know for a fact its the tcase.

Thanks for the heads up but I had her up on a lift running in gear. I had my stethoscope out and you can hear it's the transfer case as plain as day. Plus driving down the road when you turn the car side to side, there is no change in the tone from putting different loads on the wheels.
