Evo 9 First gear Question

I was wondering if their was a way to find out if a tranny had a first gear in it? It not in the car yet. From what I heard you can do is mark the input shaft and mark a spline on the shaft where the axle goes or the tc bolts up to. Then count how many full turns the input shaft takes for the axle shaft area to make one full turn. Is this right?

Evo 8 --->13.25 input shaft turns
Evo 9--->12.6 input shaft turns

Can someone shine some light on this for me. I think I got ripped off. Say that it was a Sheptranny when I think it isn't.

I tried to do a search and couldn't find anything to help.

Email either Shep or Teamrip to see if they know and can point you in the right direction.

Also you have to buy the evo9 first gear when you send an 8 tranny to shep. It's an extra 375. So it could have been built by shep, just not with a 9 first gear.

easy solution that i discovered. drive it! rev it out and see the mph

7,000 rpm = 40 mph in a nine first gear
7,350 rpm (ish) = 45 mph in a nine first gear

Like they said, contact shep and see. Also see if he has a receipt to show the customer had it done there, if they can do that?
